It is November and the open air swimming pool in Hinksey Park is firmly shut up for the winter. It first opened in 1936 (as the Jubilee Pools) utilising the filter beds of the former Oxford waterworks. At first swimming was free but there were no changing rooms and the water was unheated; nowadays the standard adult swim price is £8 but at least the water is warm and there is even a cafe on site.
