These are ex-Metropolitan Line trains which have been rebuilt by Vivarail to run on the main lines of British Railways. Those here are to be used on the Wrexham to Bidston 'Borderlands' route operated by Transport for Wales. They have been fitted with diesel motors to allow them to run on the non-electrified route. Other variants are being introduced elsewhere. On the Isle of Wight Island Line, for example, which is fully electrified with a third rail, and one is even being tested in Pennsylvania in the US!
