Constructed as part of the development of the new housing estate to the north of the main road, and providing a means of access into that estate. The start of the town's 30mph limit used to lie roughly at the far side of the roundabout, but has been moved further out of town, in an (sometimes successful) attempt to manage traffic speeds a little.
