The line from Blackheath to Dartford was opened on 1st May 1895. Falconwood station was opened much later than the remainder of the line, on 1st January 1936, to serve a growing area. This view looks down the line towards Welling. The main station buildings are above the up platform at the top of the cutting. This train was a real enthusiasts’ day out. It left Derby at 6 am on 30th October 2021 to visit the Isle of Grain Freight Line in North Kent before going back via Hither Green to visit the Dungeness Nuclear Fuel Freight Line. It eventually returned to Derby at midnight so the enthusiasts spent over 18 hours on the train with just a 20 minute break at Ashford International. That is true dedication.
