The huge Horse Chestnut that stood here for over a century was featured in several of our images - Image, Image, Image, and Image It was planted to honour Queen Victoria and had to be felled in 2019 after becoming dangerous. The village was distraught and raised funds to replace it, grinding out the stump and planting this, a Sweet Chestnut, in its stead. It is thought that the canker that affects Horse Chestnuts does not touch these. I hope it will grow as huge and splendid as the original.
