Emmanuel church was opened on 18th December, 1866, but closed to worshippers in 1974. It was designed by John Norton for a 'low church' and was built in a mere thirteenth months. It was enlarged in 1868 and the tower constructed in 1884. When the church was sold off, the main body was demolished and a block of apartments took its place, with a profile that respects the former outline.
