Ross Street is in an area of Rochester called Troy Town, named after John Cazeneuve Troy, a local wine merchant who let the land on building leases in the early 19th century. The houses here are part of a later expansion from the original streets - one of them carries the date 1906. The bay-windowed terraced houses look substantial enough though they are packed in, and the roadway is inevitably clogged with parked cars.
