The cemetery was run by a volunteer from 1992 to 2019 when it had to close to new arrivals due to the introduction of EU regulations requiring costly inspections of his “animal waste disposal business”. It had been particularly useful to the village as many of the houses in the harbour area don't have gardens. Washed up animals including seals, dolphins and a shark have also been buried here.
