"A good example of a 1920s former secondary school, now in use as [workshops leased from the Council]. The former school was built circa 1928 and was constructed as part of the wider development of the Saffron Lane area, the first of Leicester's social housing estates. The school was named after Mary Linwood, a nationally recognised 18th century embroiderer and Patron of the Arts. The former school has a strong visual presence within the streetscene, fronting onto the adjacent recreation ground." [Local Heritage Asset Register, Leicester city Council]
