A lot of Edinburgh's buildings are of sandstone quarried in Craigleith Quarry. However this massive hole was filled in and built on to create the Craigleith Retail Park. A small fraction of the remaining quarry face can still be seen behind the large shops on the east side of the shopping centre. This sandstone is part of that face.
