This pub is called "The Litten Tree". It, like much of Coventry, is shaded by Lime trees, sometimes called Linden trees. An illuminated sign, not captured here, resembled the leaves of the nearby trees. So I wondered if Litten was a local dialect version of Linden, and asked the staff, and a couple of locals, who met my query with incomprehension. It appears that the word is the name of the pub, as far as they are concerned. I have only come across the word as a surname, and dictionaries give it as an archaic alternative for 'lighted' as a past participle. So I am none the wiser.
