An integral part of Donald Gibson's concept for the postwar renewal of the city centre, built 1954-56, Listed Grade II. The area has undergone a number of major transformations. The original upper level walkways were redesigned in the 1990s, and have recently had access from the pedestrian level and the bridges crossing the precinct removed. The pedestrian level has been completely redesigned with new planting and water features.
