One of my most vivid memories is standing here in November 1968 as a choirboy as World War One veterans filed past to mark the 50th anniversary of the Armistice. To a youngster they seemed to go on forever - to me it is as fresh in my mind as yesterday, but everyone of those veterans is now dead.
