Comparing this (SE) corner of the square with the other three would suggest that there was once a house to the right of this one. There's a gap that could be due to air-raid damage in the Second World War. In any case, isolated as it is, the house exposes the basic boxiness of Georgian house-building. It would be hard to deny that the Georgian developers laid out attractive urban spaces - streets and squares - in this part of London, but the individual dwellings they lined them with could be pretty basic. Checking with Sir John Summerson's 'Georgian London' (Penguin edition, 1969, p283), all he has to say of the houses in Cloudesley Square is that they are 'mere routine stuff' !
