Former workhouse (Hereford)

Here is the former city workhouse in Hereford, which is now known as the Fred Bulmer Building and is part of the County Hospital. The buildings here were completed in Autumn 1837, and were built on the site of St. Guthlac's Priory. In the 1900s, the master and matron of the workhouse were Mr. and Mrs. Harding, and their child Gilbert was born here in 1907; he later had a successful career in television in the 1950s, appearing on shows like What's My Line and Twenty Questions.
