The west gatehouse and wall are in profile here, showing what impressive structures they are even today, let alone in Roman Britain. The gatehouse was reconstructed in 1986. Reconstruction is a great way to bring ancient history and prehistory to life and communicates better than many books, leaflets, museums and even those most potent communicators - actual artifacts.
