These two buildings form part of a group of historic houses on an otherwise largely modern street dominated by Coventry University buildings and the ring road, which can be seen in the background crossing Gosford Street on a viaduct. Gosford Books is a second hand bookshop and celebrated 40 years in business in 2017. The timber-framed building behind it was a real ale pub called Whitefriars for some years, but it has no documented connection with the historic Whitefriars, the medieval Carmelite monastery, part of which still survives nearby, nor was it a pub until recent years. It closed some time around the end of 2016 and was still vacant when this photo was taken in July 2021.
