Between 11 and 14 February 2008 members of Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg (The Welsh Language Society) marched from Ysgol Y Parc in Bala to Ysgol Llidiardau in Rhoshirwaun to protest against Gwynedd Council's plans to close or federate primary schools in the county. The march was named "O Benllyn i Ben-Llŷn" (From Penllyn - the area around Bala - to Pen-Llŷn - the Llŷn Peninsula). Along the way they were joined by local parents and children. Here they are leaving Criccieth on their way to Ysgol Llanystumdwy - the school Lloyd George attended as a boy, now threatened with closure. The banner reads "Cau Ysgol - Lladd Cymuned" - "Close a School - Kill a Community".
