One of the glacial lochs around Lochmaben, Mill Loch was one of the four lochs in which a fish called the vendace was found. It was netted in large numbers in the 19th century, to the extent that it became extinct here by 1970. It was reintroduced in other lochs in the 1990s. (From the nearby information board.)
