This milepost, one of several remaining on the York to Thirsk route which went through Easingwold was originally on a now cut-off section of the A19 which was realigned in the 1980s. In January 2009 it was found in the ditch. When the authorities failed to reinstate this Listed post, Milestone Society members set it back up. These posts are thought to have been made at the Norby Foundry in Thirsk between 1835-60.
