This beacon - a metal post topped by an iron basket - is one of over 1000 such beacons placed around the UK as part of a nationwide remembrance project to mark the centenary of the end of the First World War on the 11th November 2018. This one is sited in the War Memorial Gardens, Methil. Rather sadly, there is neither plaque nor inscription indicating the purpose of the beacon. There is a similar beacon sited on Limekilns Pier https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6884792
