Ulverston Station is a Grade II listed building of significant architectural merit but the approach is spoiled by a clutter of signs for the station car park, a pay machine (£4 minimum charge), a telephone kiosk and planters. Tucked away in the corner is a Furness Railway 'squirrel and grapes' seat (may not be original) in rather neglected condition. The cast iron lamp bracket on the corner of the wall is an original Furness Railway item and bears the Furness Railway monogram, but the globe shade is a modern addition. On the stone quoin at the bottom of the wall corner there is an Ordnance Survey cut benchmark marking a height of 30.5407m above sea level (Ordnance Datum Newlyn) when last verified in 1968 (photograph Image).
