One of a kind

Northern General 3129 started life with London Transport and was the only 30 ft long Routemaster built for them with a forward entrance. In practice it never saw service in London, its early years being spent on loan to a number of operators for evaluation before being sold to Northern General. Northern was the only bus operator to purchase this format of the Routemaster, so it was a natural home for it. One of Northern's own Routemasters can be seen in the background, right. 3129 is seen leaving the old Worswick Street bus station in the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne. This was Northern's main departure point in the city for services to south of the Tyne. It closed in 1996 and seems to have served for many years as an unofficial car park before being finally demolished for redevelopment in early 2021 https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6833373 .
