Mid 18th century in origin, but altered considerably in the meantime, including the insertion of the shop front and one-time vehicle entrance in (probably) the 20th. It was Grade II listed https://britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/101180156-1-lower-bar-newport#.YNOXguhKjIU & https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1180156 in 1978.
