Climate change and regional differences mean that common names linked to flowering times are not always accurate. When I was young and growing-up down south, Hawthorn [Crataegus monogyna] could be relied upon to be in flower in May. 70 years on, and 5 degrees [500 km] further north, mid-June is more usual. Ne'er cast a clout until May is out!
