This is Javelin Park near the M5. This facility burns domestic waste and produces electricity for feeding into the national grid. It is operated by Urbaser Balfour Beatty and has been operational since 2019. In its first year it treated 177,582 tonnes of waste. The burning waste generates steam at 60 bar and 425 degrees Centigrade. This is passed through a steam turbine generating 17.4 MW gross and exporting 14.5 MW net to the grid after transforming up to 33 kV. The exhaust steam is condensed in a large air cooled condenser that is on the opposite side of the building and cannot be seen here. The flue gases are treated with lime and activated carbon and then passed through bag filters. The ash from combustion has the metal removed and the residue is used as a construction aggregate.
