All Saints' Church was built between 1788 and 1790 to a neoclassical design by George Steuart. It replaced a 14th century building, which may have been sited closer to Church Street, and it is known that there was at least one church here before that. The old church was badly damaged in the Civil War, when - at different times - it was garrisoned by both sides; after the war little effort seems to have been made to repair it. In the end it was demolished, retaining only the bells for the new building.
