This must be in contention for the shortest and narrowest Main Street. In the 18th century the village was at the junction of five roads and served travellers en route to and from England. William and Dorothy Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge were here in 1803. (Source: 'Village Trails in Clydesdale and Tweeddale' by Rosemary Turpie and Ian Gilchrist, Quothquan Trails 2015).
