The mid 18th century brick facade hides an earlier (17th century) core construction, which is probably timber-framed - part of this is exposed in on the far end. It attracted a Grade II listing https://britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/101367300-5-9-high-street-newport#.YLyNXPlKjIU & https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1367300 in 1952.
