The Foleys bought the estate and the great house of Stoke Edith Park in 1670. The great house is no more, having been destroyed by fire in 1927. Even the replacement of 1938 by Philip Tilden lasted less than 20 years and all that remains are the ruined service wings and the lake with a ruined boathouse. Pevsner rated Stoke Edith as the county's greatest architectural loss.
