The pub displays no brewer's mark on the outside but is in fact a Samuel Smith house. Old maps show it was previously named the Mainwaring Arms after the ancestral owners of nearby Peover Hall. Inside, there is a display of memorabilia from when American General Patton and his officers stationed at the hall in World War II drank here, and the present landlord continues the tradition of keeping fresh flowers on the General's table.
