The development of the village was begun in the first decade of the 20th century by the Joseph Rowntree Village Trust and was never exclusively for employees of the Rowntree confectionery business. As someone who often drives through the centre of New Earswick, a wander round on foot revealed some interesting views such as this tree lined pedestrian avenue with decent housing to either side. My impression is that these are some of the earlier properties and probably date from the 1920's.
