The building, home to Newcastle Eagles basketball team, was completed in early 2019. Part of the arena is currently being utilised as a COVID-19 vaccination centre led by Newcastle's federation of GP practices. In the distance people were queuing outside the venue waiting their turn to receive their first of two doses of the vaccine manufactured by Pfizer-BioNTech.
