Nottingham's General Hospital stood on this site from 1782-1992. The rotunda, the former Jubilee Wing, designed by Alfred Waterhouse, has been a distinctive shape on the city skyline since 1898, when its foundation stone was laid by the Duke of Portland as a memorial of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee - see Alan Murray-Rust's Image
