Gaps between houses, Truro Street, Armley

There is a noticeable gap running diagonally across five streets on this estate, but it is not, as you might expect, a pedestrian cut-through or ginnel as often found. Looking at old maps, in 1893 this was a field boundary; by 1908 houses had been built on the field to the west (right, in this photo) and by the 1930s the streets had been extended to the east, but without filling in this gap.
