Peter Cook's grandmother's house, where Peter's mother was living when he was born at St Chad's nursing home on 17th November 1937, and where he spent his early childhood. 'Bythorn' ... was a large, boxy, substantial and slightly gloomy house, too big to be ordinary, too hemmed in to be grand, at the end of a dark, mysterious driveway.
