The Royal Coat of Arms (of a type used 1816-37) on the front of John Dower House. The building was named after Adelaide, Duchess of Clarence (later to become Queen Consort to William IV) who stayed here in 1827. After the building was named the Clarence Hotel after her. The lion looks like he's had a fright.
