The 21st century has seen an enormous reduction in bus services in rural areas as a result of shrinking local authority finances. Operation of double deck buses on such services, once common, is now relatively rare, but the tradition is maintained on Nottingham City Transport's South Notts service 1 between Nottingham and Loughborough.
