"Signage: ancient, and modern - and unecessary" {sic} https://www.torbay.gov.uk/media/7591/warberries-caa.pdf as the conservation area appraisal points out, even though it can't spell. Richard Dorrell makes a similar point at Image Perhaps someone foresaw the moment when the old upper sign would be overtaken by foliage, though the later sign will soon follow.
