Looking north along the motorway with the bridge over the Swale just beyond the lines of trees. This section from J52 northwards for around a mile presented difficulties for the constructors as there was insufficient room for the motorway to be built to one side of the former dual carriageway, so the line of the former A1 had to be followed with the cutting in the foreground being widened and barriers constructed to keep the sides from collapsing on to the road.
