Looking down Gateacre Brow with The Bear and Staff on the right. This historic 19th century coaching inn, originally called The Bear and Ragged Staff, provided accommodation and stabling for travellers on the old packhorse trail (today Halewood Road and Grange Lane) which linked the Mersey crossing at Hale to West Derby.
