Low cliffs on the Stour estuary at Harkstead

The cliffs show exposures of the Harwich Formation of the London Clay, dating back to the Eocene. The London Clay is overlain by interglacial deposits of about 200,000 years BP which sometimes yield bones of rhino and mammoth.
