The pond in Cavendish is known as the Waver (from the old English for swampy ground). It is a former cart pond used for washing carts and to soak their wheels to expand the wooden joints. It was restored in 2001 after becoming totally silted up. Sadly as you can see the vivid shade of blue/green water shows it is suffering from an algal bloom.
