Originally two houses, now combined into one, numbers 209 and 210 Church Street is a late 15th century building. Timber framed, refaced and partly rebuilt in rendered rubble stone with a tiled roof in the 17th century and altered in the 18th century. Some framing is exposed to the rear where there are lean-to extensions. Believed to be an old manor house. Listed, grade II, with details at: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1021785 Hilperton is a residential village adjacent to the northern suburbs of Trowbridge and is only some 1¼ miles north of Trowbridge town centre. Although the village was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086, little is known of its history until the 19th century when home-based cloth weaving was a major source of employment. The village was astride the A361 road but is now by-passed.
