A cow looks a little unsure. This long, straight track on the farmland is where the old Weston, Clevedon and Portishead railway line used to run. The WC&PR was a small, privately operated line that served just this part of north Somerset from 1897 to 1940. It was a 14 mile line that offered nineteen stations, mainly rural, and much used by farmers. The business was perennially stumped for cash and its engines were an eclectic mix of second-hand units. The line had a particularly rustic appeal but the war signalled its end.
