Obviously not a castle at all, but likely to be on the site of a medieval castle that belonged to the Scrope family, who also owned Bolton Castle. The east front of the house is a classical design by John Foss of Richmond and dates from circa 1802. The grounds were open to visitors as part of an 'open gardens' day.
