Get your sweet, pink, forced rhubarb at this farm shop. At one time, a 9 square mile area centred around Carlton, near Wakefield, was the UK's main supplier of early forced rhubarb. At the peak of production, up to 200 tons of rhubarb daily were distributed by the 'Rhubarb Express', run by the Great Northern Railway from Ardsley station. Although production is no longer so prolific, Wakefield still holds an annual Rhubarb festival, promoting what remains of the industry. 'Yorkshire forced rhubarb' was awarded Protected Designation of Origin' status by the EU in 2010
