Hermit Statue at Nine Year Old Cave, Cave Drive Hulne Park

This rather old statue of a Hermit was placed here at the behest of Duchess Elizabeth Percy (1716 - 1776 1st Duchess of Northumberland) in the 1770s by Thomas Call a gardener here in the 18thC. Of this spot, the Duchess called the adjacent cave The Nine Year Old Cave and asked that the statue be "of a Hermit, not ill adapted to the retired situation of this romantic solitude."
