Lumbhole Mill, Kettleshulme - steam engine

This former candle wick works was primarily water powered but had a beam engine installed for auxiliary power. This was built 1832 by J & T Sherratt of Salford and later had a new cylinder by J & E Arnfield of New Mills. The engine stopped in 1937 and is preserved. The slide valve cylinder is c18" x 48" and it was rated at 50-60 hp at c35 rpm on steam at 30 psi. The flywheel is 14' diameter. Access is not easy as the site is privately owned and is not insured for visitors.
