The sign is double sided, carved and unpainted. It depicts a knight, namely Thomas de Shernborne and Jamine, his wife, who is peering out of the castle window. According to the brasses in the church which are no longer legible, when they were read in the early 17th century it read (translates from the Latin) Thomas Sherneborne, chamberlain to the lady Margaret, queen of England and Jamine his wife, sometime mistress of the cellar to the same queen. The spandrels are decorated with oak leaves. The reverse is identically opposite. (Thanks to the Monumental Brass Society)
